vaginal bleeding

I am a 41 year old healthy mother of 2.  I have abnormal vaginal bleeding on a daily basis.  It is extremely heavy during a bowel movement and during sex.  Why is this happening?  My gynocologist did a pap smear and ultrasound, but cannot tell me why it is happening.  She is suggesting a procedure that strips the lining of my uterus, but I would like to know if anyone knows why it is happening or if anyone has had this experience before?

I am 32 years old, overweight, have one child and have never really had a regular period. After about six months of no periods, for the last month and a half, or maybe two I have been bleeding non stop sometimes heavily, then just spotting. I have had probably four days of bleeding and two or three days with just spotting then again heavy bleeding. I'm already feeling weak, headaches and get extremely short of breath when I do a little bit of walking. My younger sister has been going through the same thing and when she decided to go to the hospital, they told her she has lost a lot of blood and is anemic. They even told her she might need a blood transfusion because of all the blood she's loosing w/ blood clots and all. I wasn't really bleeding clots until today and right after that the pain began.  I'm worried because today, for the first time I have started to feel a sharp pain in my left ovary. Has anyone else been through this? What can this be?   Thanks.
