vaginal smell

I have a weird onion smell from my vagina. I haven't eaten any onions in the past few weeks and when I cut onions (at work) I wore gloves. Because it happened before in February. Any advice would be helpful.

Wash without using normal soaps every morning and before going to bed.
If you do want to use a soap, use non perfumed ones, and ones that have the same pH level as our skin.

Always wash with water after having sex.  If you do engage in "sexual pleasures" at night time and are too tired to wash, make sure that you go to urinate, to avoid getting a urinary infection and wash in the morning.

Wear cotton pants as nylon and manmade fibre ones will make you sweat and cause more odour and encourage yeast growth.  Wear clean pants every day and don't use a strongly scented detergent.

Make sure that you drink plenty of fluids, especially water.  2 litres a day is usually recommended, but more if you sweat a long.

Cut out or cut down on sugary, processed and junk foods.  Sugary, fizzy and alcoholic drinks.

Eat a healthy and well balanced diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, lean meat and fish.

Are you able to smell yourself, or are smelling the toilet paper when you wipe your urethra and vaginal opening?  Sometimes the toilet paper chemicals and your excretions can smell strange because of the toilet paper.

If you continue to have a strong smell from the vagina with or without any discharge with having a good hygiene, book an appointment to see your doctor to get a swab done to be sent to the laboratory for analysis to rule out any infections.

A URINARY tract infection can change the color of our urine and make it smell VERY strong, but of urine, not onions.

But you say this odor is coming from your vagina which could indicate a yeast infection. In my 64 years, I've had quite a few yeast infections, but none of them smelled like onions. I don't EVEN want to say what they smelled like, but onions would smell sweet comparably!

Do you have a discharge? Is your period late? Any pain or fever or cramping?

You say this also happened in February. Did it happen in March?

I hate to say that I'm a bit at a loss to explain this. I've tried to connect it with your periods, but you don't say if it only happens then or is more constant.

Have you changed laundry or showering soaps? I trust you haven't taken up douching without medical cause.

I would say if it was MY vagina, I'd take it to my OB/GYN and find the cause.

I hope if you DO see your doctor, you'll let us know what it is/was so we can all get educated on this.
I wish you the very best.
