very worried about my mom...PLEASE answer!

my mother and i don't know what's wrong with her. just out of no where over a week ago, she just started to get bad pain in her knees. they have gotten swollen too. it has gotten worse since then, and she can barely move. i took her to the doctors last week to get blood work done, but she won't know what's wrong until maybe tomorrow or wednesday. it could be arthritis or she just recently thought it could be gout. does anyone know what this could be?

my mom isn't in much pain. her left leg is fine, but her right leg is the worst. her knee is a little stiff and her ankles are still swollen. she is gonna go to the family doctor tomorrow to get a prescription for water pills that she could take to help her ankles. other than that, she's fine.

WOW!  I am glad they finally diagnosed her.  Is she still in alot of pain?  They have drained my mothers knees before also but still have no clue as to what it could be.  She did have an MRI done this morning so we are waiting on results.  I hope your mom gets better and thanks for the reply!

my mom has osteoarthritis. the doctor had to drain liquid from her legs and put a steroid in her legs i think. in july she has to have surgery where they are gonna slit the sides of her knees and cut out some bone. osteoarthritis is where the cartiledge wears away and the bone rubs together. i went to gnc for my mom and got her joint pain pills with Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate. they repair cartiledge.

Hi there.  Just curious as to if you or your mother ever found an answer.  The odd thing is that my mother is going thru the same thing and has for a year.  The only tests they have not run is a MRI or CT Scan.  Her blood work and ultrasound came out fine.  She is in MAJOR pain and her knees are so swollen.  I just wish they could figure out what is wrong with her.

Thanks!

It won't do anyone any good to speculate what could be wrong.  Better (though hard) to wait until you know for sure and deal with it then.  There are lots of reasons for knee pain, and no one on the internet can tell you more than the real, live doctor your mother is seeing.

Good luck!
