vulvar vestibulitis and IC

I went to see a specialist yesterday for an undiagnosed chronic condition that I have had for 2 years now.  The doctor (gynecology specialist) did a lot of muscular tests in the office.  He also touched spots on my vulvar region which were very uncomfortable- not really painful, just an awkward stinging and bothersome feeling.  It is the same feeling I get off and on throughout my cycle (feel the BEST during my period) without being touched there.  He seemed to think I have Vulvar vestibulitis.  Also, he looked at the pictures from my laprascopic surgery last August (which I was told was normal) and said he noticed small white lesions in my bladder.  He wants me to come back to have a test done with potassium to further investigate interstitial cyctitis.  Anybody out there with either of these conditions that can describe symptoms they endure?  Anything that helps to ease the discomfort until I wait for my next appointment?  I also have heavy cramping and discharge AFTER my period ends.  My regular gyn says I have cervicitis, but the specialist couldn't do much with my cervix because I was in the middle of my cycle.  Does anyone know if any of these conditions are connected?
