Hi everyone...I too am going to be starting the Nuvaring. I took my last Orthotricycline lo today (I never did the Sunday start...I would start active pills on a Friday, last one Thursday, and get my period M-F)I was on that for about 2 or 3 years, but have been on OCPs since I was 23 and I am now 34.
The reason for switching to Nuvaring is I seem to be having heavier days during my periods each month, and today I am having some minor breakthrough bleeding. My Gynecologist thinks that the cholesterol lowering over the counter drug I am taking, Cholestine, is interfering with how the pill is being absorbed in the GI tract. I didn't notice the problem periods while on Ortho lo until after starting Cholestine about 3-4 months ago.
I have a few questions before starting Nuvaring. My doctor told me to refridgerate it until use so that it does not lose its potency until I am ready to insert it. Is this necessary? Since I am ending my pill pack of actives today, would I then insert Nuvaring next Thursday even though I used to start the active pills for the next month on a Friday? I probably have a million more questions about it, but can't think of any more at the moment. Thanks!
They refridgerate it in the pharmacy and when you take it home you can store it at room temp. If you don't want your mom to know you can go to your local health department and get it for free. I'm not sure what state you live in but in SC they have a family planning waiver card and since I am a student I get my birth control free. I'm sure there are other clinics that are free or barely anything.
Im not sure once it leaves the pharmacy....we refrigerate it until dispensed.
thanks guys...well my mom does not want me to use birth control because she doesn't want me having sex...she wants me to practice abstinence..anyway do you need to refrigerate it or it's ok to store at at room temp?
I liked the nuva ring better than the pill or the patch. It's so easy once a month and no one knows about it. It also has the least amount of hormones in it so not as many side effects.
I think its great that you are looking into a form of birth control. I have never used the nuvaring but have heard great things about it. I have heard that one side effect is tingling in the legs. I dont know why your mother would be upset over you being on birth control, especially since your 18. I think it shows that you are being responsable. I think your mother should be proud that you are using protection. If you want a list of side effects google Nuvaring and you will find some info. Best of Luck!!
