Prophylactic is just meaning preventative. So they would prescribe an antibiotic and then also give me an antifungal just in case the antibiotic gave me a yeast infection. I get yeast infections quite a bit as well and I'm stumped why a pap smear would cause this. The only thing I can think is perhaps yeast occurred this time because of the procedure. Yeast forms from moist environments and perhaps your vagina trapped excess moisture during the procedures?? I'm not really sure though...hopefully someone else will post some advice.
thank you i will check into it. but my question right now was i havent been and i am not on any antibiotics. and the only thing i did yesterday was have a pap smear and last week a biopsy of my cervix or uterus. then last night all of a sudden the yeast infection and or symptoms appeared!!!!!!!! i nromally dont get yeast infections except when im on antibiotics!!! i am married and neither one of us has done anything different. so what is this antifungal prophlactic and how is it differ from traditional treatments? thank you so much for taking the time to answer. thanks again r.o.
I am a nursing student and I have been on antibiotics twice since being in school. What I know about antibiotics is that some may cause a superinfection or may also cause a yeast infection. I was given an antifungal prophylactically to prevent a yeast infection. You may want to follow up with your doctor and have them prescribe you an antifungal after finishing the antibiotics. Hope this helps!
