worried about my mom

by Meese, Feb 14, 2007 12:00AM
Hello ladies,

I'm a little worried about my mom.  She's been in menopause for probably the last 5+ years and two weeks ago she began spotting.  Her Dr. apparently didn't seem to concerned but ordered an ultrasound for her.  My mom doesn't want us to worry but I'm wondering if anyone has any idea or suggestions on what the spotting could be caused from and if we really should be worrying about her or not?

Probably nothing to worry about. Spotting is a very common sign of hormonal imbalance, which your Mom is experiencing. Her hormones are sending funny messages to her uterus right now.

The ultrasound is always a good idea, but this is likely perfectly normal and you shouldn't worry.

Thank you!  We've had a lot of tragedy in our family in the last two years so it's a little hard not to worry.  I guess we'll feel better once she has the ultra sound tomorrow.

Make sure she gets a pap test every year to test for cervical cancer too.  I blew off spotting and a discharge for months thinking it was pre-menopause, and when I finally went for a pap test, I have high level precancerous cells that need to be treated!  I figured I was over 40 and married for 19 years, had pap tests every year, what could go wrong in a year!
