yeast infection and diflucan

by jewels8888, Mar 23, 2006 12:00AM
I was prescribed by my doctor some antibiotic for a bronchitis a while back and for the first time i got a yeast infection. my doctor explained that it happens with antibiotic sometimes and prescribed diflucan. it worked and all was fine. my question is about 22 days later i got hives for the first time, i went to see my doctor and he told me since it went away after 2 days( i only got them at night) and did not get it again after taking benadryl that it was a allergic reaction to  maybe my laundry detergent.. food..could be anything..(i was eating a lot of strawberry so it could be that) but after i read information on duflican yesterday it said that some patient can have hives as a side effect after taking the medication. do you think that 22 days after is to long of a time to get side effect from the pill?
thanks

After 22 days, the difulcan would have long since been out of your system.  I am allergic to Keflex.  It gives me hives.  However, it is shortly after I take it that I get them.  Hives are usually from an allergic reaction.  And you probably will never know what it was to.  I got them one summer.  We narrowed it down to tomato products.  It only lasted that one summer though.  After that, I was fine.  I am sure all is fine with you.  It is probably just an isolated incident.

Best wishes,

Amanda

I don't think it's possible to get an allergic reaction 22 days later, but I'm not a DR. I get hives due to allergies, and they tend to happen instantly. I'm allergic to cats & some medicine, and when I took the medicine, the hives popped up about 10 minutes after I took it, likewise, when I touch a cat, the hives pop up immediately.

Diflucan is usually prescribed as one pill of 150mg, depending on the person and the yeast infection more than one pill may be prescribed or at higher doses.  Once taking the diflucan 150mg it usually stays in your system for at least 7 days.  Were you only prescribed one tablet?

thank you Amanda.. you are probably right, and my doctor told me the same thing that you have to narrow it down and most of the time you dont even know what caused the hives...
