yeast infection

okay I really didn't want to start a new topic, or bring this up, but I have a yeast infection and it's awful. I just finished a round of antibiotics to cure my tonsilitis, and this itch started. all symptoms are identical to that of a YI, and I think it was caused by the penicillin. I know most of you ladies dont like antiobiotics unless you absolutely have to take them. well I did, and now I have this nuisance. so I bought 3 day canesten, finished 2 days worth, symptoms seem to be subsiding.
how exactly do these creams work? will three days be enough? if the symptoms continue to subside, does that mean this is a YI? any tips on how to get rid of, and to help with the pain would be gladly appreciated, this is only the 2nd one I've ever had so I don't know much.
also, I imagine abstaining from sex is a good idea. I Read that the treatment can interfere with effectiveness of condoms, and my pill has already been compromised because of the antibiotics. HELP!?

I have a question I'm 36weeks pregnant and I have a yeast infection well my midwife gave me a cream to use because I can't take the pill because of the baby Bt its doesn't feel like its working I can't seem to pee because I've scratched so bad that it burns and hurt can I use a&d ointment. To help the scratches heal faster and so it wont hurt when I pee and how long does it take to heal I'm really. Uncomfortable and with labor getting close I would really like it to go away

For me, Diflucan works great for YIs. It's prescription so you would definitely have to visit your doctor first. You take this one pill and at least for me, I start to feel better within 24 hours.

hi how are you?? seeing as I've got a thread to myself I wanted to say hello. I haven't bought any of your recommended supplements yet, probiotics, enzymes, and keifer. I am on a very limited budget. can you please give me a rough idea of what these things are worth, hopefully not too expensive, and if I could only have one, which would be in my best interest to get?
also, wut do u think of the mild herbal colon cleanse? I did one about 10 months ago and thought it was great.

okay, so I got a little freaked and I went to the doctor!! he said, and this actually made me LOL, 'if I had a nickel for everytime a woman came in here complaining of an itchy **** right after antiobiotics, I would be a rich man' he sent me home with a prescription for diflucan, but I am hoping the 3 day treatment I already took will be enough. common symptoms are itching, dryness and white CM.

Sometimes it takes a little while for things to clear up, but if the med is working, symptoms should continually be improving.  As for sex,  don't even bother until you feel 100%.  If you rush, all you will do is increase your healing time. If it hurts, don't do it.

I would definitely say buy the probiotics first, especially since you've been taking antibiotics.  I would suggest going to a health food store and pricing out the different brands.  Make sure if the bottle says 'keep refrigerated' you do.  If not, all of your hard earned money will be wasted.
I usually try to cleanse twice a year.  I am pretty regulated, so once a year is actually pretty good for me.  I enjoy cleansing as a way to rid the body of toxins.  Lord knows we have millions of them from all the s*** in the American diet.  I try to eat as natural and organic as possible, but once again, good things for us are expensive.
Make sure you speak to someone educated at the health food store or even consult a nutritionist.  They will be able to help find what you need.

It is a well known association, antibiotics due indeed cause yeast infections in many women.  The vaginal environment consists of a balance of many types of bacteria. One such bacteria is lactobacilli, which is a peroxide forming bacteria. This is the critter that keeps the vaginal ph at a nice acidic level preventing yeast over growth.

When you take a broad spectrum antibiotic, like penicillen, you kill off many of these good bacteria. This can set you up for yeast infections and bacterial infections. If you know you are prone to getting yeast infections with the use of antibiotics, the next time you need to take them, use an otc yeast med as a profolactic. Don't use a short treatment. You may want to buy a 7day treatment and stagger it every other day while you are on the med. Talk to your doc about any health concerns.

Some of this, I'd ask the doctor who originally prescribed the antibiotics.  He or she would be the best to tell you about side effects.  If not enough info from that person, then go see your ob-gyn.  Probably there are yeast-infection/antibiotic/birth- control-pill knowledgeable women posting here, but it is a complex interaction you are asking about, and an ob-gyn would be the best to advise you.  Home treatment of a YI without even a call to a doc makes me nervous.

okay thanks freespririt and anniebrooke.
as for the sex question, nevermind, that would be just gross right now, but I'd really like to back to normal soon!
also, how long does the gross discharge last??? I did a treatment and 24 hours later, there's still messy stuff coming out.
