Hi Pagpri
most IGM is sterile, meaning it test negative for all known bacteria and fungal causes
this does not necessarily mean it is not caused by a bacteria or fungi, it means they haven't discovered the bacteria or fungi yet, so can't test for it
other theories are that IGM is an inflammatory reaction, in which case, there is no role for antibiotics, other than to avoid infection developing in the wounds from having an opening in the skin, as infection is always a possibility once you have open skin
usually you will find pain relief, once your breast does start draining, as it relieves the pressure, once the fluid has a place to go...get out of the breast
if the inflammatory theory is true, it is very im
portant to only have minimal biopsy activity as any cutting or probing in the breast causes increased inflammation...just makes the IGM worse
I think this is what makes GM so frustrating...no one knows the cause so no one knows the proper treatment,
wishing you healing,
Which antibiotics have you tried? I was given five different ones (10 day cycles - none of which reduced the lump by any amount and two seemed to cause abscesses) before we decided to retry Bactrim. I'm now going into my fourth week of Bactrim and I'm starting to see some real results (the abcess sites have pretty much healed, the lump has significantly reduced in size). Nothing happened until the third week of Bactrim, so a normal dosage wouldn't have produced the same results. The lump isn't gone, so I'm not "cured", but it is about half the size that it was (it started at 8 by 8 cm) and it is much less firm and more nodular.
