Clay

So I bought some clay, and I think I'm going to try it out tonight when I get home.  I have 2 small areas that are reddish purple and a bit sensitive to touch but not ready to be drained.

Does anyone know if using the clay on these areas will cause them to burst through the skin?  I actually prefer to have all my abscesses lanced and drained.

Also, any ideas how long to leave it on?

Brendy, I haven't used the clay long enough or consistently as much as Amy but I know I've learned the clay draws out impurities and will draw the abscess out of the breast.  I haven't put clay on any open incisions but I did put it on an incision that healed and closed.  It ended up drawing out more pus and opened the incision back up so its draining again.  Which is ok with me, as long as the pus gets out if it needs to get out. I hope this answers your question.  I had a lot of questions about clay too but kinda had to learn as I go. Trial and error.

I have an incision with stitches still can I still put on clay on the areas that are red and well I definitely have a big lump on one side and I see that as of yesterday another one is coming out under my breast.  I'm really glad I found this site, I don't feel so alone anymore.

yes yes yes.  I haven't checked out the site lately, but I used clay to "cure" myself.  I use several poultices a day and I always wore them.  I had 3 problem areas in a triangle.  I would put enough clay on the gauze so that when I squished it up against the breast, the clay would cover all three areas.  Then, over the gauze with my fingers, I would form the clay into a normal breast shape and just wear it around.  3 years later, I am wearing clay at night, every other night.  I probably don't need to do even that much, but I just want to keep things under control.  Three years ago, the reason I took the clay seriously is that it had such an amazing effect on my pain.  Sticking with the routine, I found that slowly I was healing.  The one abscess that was still draining just drained into the clay until it stopped and started to go away.  I got regular mastitis (not GM) in my other breast and used the clay on that too.

Just thought I'd update on my usage of the clay.  I've used it about 4 or 5 times and I haven't used it every day.  I put it on right before I shower, and wait in the shower or in my room, then rinse it off about 20-30 minutes later. By this time it's starting to dry.  I would mix it with water just enough so that it wasn't runny but still moist and would stick to my breast.  And I didn't cover it like a poultice except for the last time I used it. So there was one day when I put it on, then put a gauze to cover it and I left it on for about 45 minutes.  I went in the shower to rinse it off and as I was wiping the area with a washcloth, I noticed some yellow stuff on the washcloth and quickly realized it was pus! It was leaking from a previous incision that had healed but through a tiny little opening that I couldn't even see.

I was putting the clay on 2 areas that are next to each other.  One area is reddish purple and is an abscess, the other is darker dead skin from a healed abscess that I had previously had I&D twice.  Because that particular incision is at the bottom of my breast it closes quickly after incisioin (within a week).  Well from using the clay, a little bit of pus was allowed to drain out from a tiny tiny hole through the scar.  I had noticed that the area was filling with pus, ONCE AGAIN.  The other abscess that I put the clay on, has not opened yet, but I will say, it is not as painful to touch as abscesses normally are.  So far I like the progress of using the clay.

Oh and I should also mention..  There was an area on the far side of my breast, that was starting to get painful and I noticed some inflammation there.  I put the clay on that area also for 2 days (20/30 minutes each time) and I noticed the pain was gone right away.  I was afraid of an abscess forming over there, I'm hoping the clay scared it away.  =)

Anyhow, I will update again later.

PS:  I have not used the clay on any open incisions.

I do have one incision that was cut 19 days ago and its almost healed but still slowly leaking some yellow-oily pus (my surgeon calls it).  And I would like to add that 2 of my abscesses that I had drained in January did refill with pus and I had it drained again in the same 2 spots 2 months later.
