Recovery time of Vitamin D deficiency

Hi :

I was diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency in August 2011. I used to get severe back pain and my pain in my upper right arm as well as numbness/tingling sensation. My vitamin d level has come back to normal. It is 56 now and earlier it was 16. However my symptoms are persisting. There is only an improvement in the tingling sensation. However my entire back hurts as well as my neck and upper arm. Especially at night the pain increases a lot and i am unable to sleep much.

Can someone help me understand? Do the symtoms still persist after the vitamin d levels come back to normal? How long does it take to recover completely? Do exercises help? If yes, then what kind?

I am 30 years old and am going through a bad time. Last ear in April i had a miscarriage. After that my back problems started and i was diagnosed with vitamin d deficiency. I am an HR professional and it has become so difficult to maintain a work life balance.

Thanks

Thanks for your responses Singlesh and Phyllis. I believe that we must persist and we shall succeed in the end. I would also recommend that you guys stick to a good exercise regimen. This will help strengthen your back muscles.

Hi there,
My situation is similar to yours. I was diagnosed with a severe D deficiency in November 2011. I started taking the D supplemetns for 3 months and my levels went upto 64 ng/ml when i was retested in January. I have been maintaining my levels in the 60's for the last 3 months but still haven't noticed a big change. I have good and bad days and i am getting very frustrated.

I have also heard that it can take anywhere from 6-12 months once levels are consistently normal for complete resolution of symptoms.

There's an article on this site about the time to recovery, typically I believe about 8 months though some people recover sooner others later. The struggle once you attain "normal" vitamin D levels is to maintain the numbers in the normal range. I started with 20 and have gotten up as high as 51 I go for a recheck tomorrow. It's a good idea to have your levels monitored periodically. I've found that bringing up my levels helped me to differentiate which of my symptoms were due to D deficiency and which to something else. For example, I have a very bad back and have experienced numbness and tingling due to a pinched nerve. If your symptoms persist after you've achieved and maintained a normal D level you might want to check out other possible causes for your neck (cervical)/back pain.
