Medtronic Concerto Concerns

by Chris_Fuller, Feb 19, 2007 12:00AM
I'm a former Medtronic employee with concerns about how Medtronic's new Concerto implantable cardiac defibrillator was tested, how forthcoming Medtronic has been regarding the device to physicians and patients and about Medtronic's unwillingness to comply with the law.  You can read more about my concerns here:

I've heard a rumor that Medtronic sent a letter to physicians regarding an issue with the Conexus (i.e. distance telemetry) part of Concerto.  Can any cardiologists or electrophysiologists comment?  Also, have you heard from Medtronic about the susceptibility of Concerto to high levels of radio energy as compared to their previous implants?

Thanks for any info.

No, I'm not a doctor; but thanks for the info.  I wear a Maximo DR 7278.  I've had numerous problems with it.  Sometimes it feels that it vibrates, very finely, almost like a tuning fork.  My EP tells me that it's not true, that it's in my mind, but my chest feels very irritated.

At times I wish I never had it implanted; I'd rather face the prospect of a VTach.

My EPs office are like the three stooges when it comes to using the Programmer.  They do not seem to know what they are doing.

Can you offer any advise to me on any options I may have.  Can the device be tested independently of the Programmer?  Can I have it exchanged?

Thanks for your input.
