External jugular vein?

by ploggin, Apr 30, 2007 12:00AM
I am wondering if this is normal or not.  I believe it is the external jugular vein that comes down from near the ear to the clavicle bone area.  About 2-3 inches above the clavicle, I notice a  bump in the vein (left side)when I feel with my finger.  I can also feel the vein along its length above this, but not below.  There may be a bit of the same on the right side, but not nearly as noticable.  I also notice my temple veins are very prominent on the left side.

Is this bump normal?  I think this may be the location of a valve but not sure of course.

Thanks
