New Fatique medication

My doctor had perscibed Amantadine for fatigue. I am wondering if anyone else with M.S. has used this medication? How well did it work? Any side effects? Thank you in advance!

My doc put me on Provigil even before he told me the diagnosis.  The fatigue was so bad, I hadn't left my recliner for months except for Dr. visits.  The Provigil was a miracle - with a catch.  It allowed me to move through the fatigue and actually do stuff.  At the same time my sister, who usually takes care of me, was seriously injured and suddenly I had to do everything, especially the driving.  I went like a madwoman for about 8 days -- then I CRASHED - big time.  It was two weeks before I felt human again.  Anyone else have this problem - of the med letting them overdo it?

What I've discovered in the 3 months of taking it is that I can't feel the fatigue building up when I overdo things.  The MS still has it's hold on my muscles.  If I overdo, I pay with 4 to 5 days in bed.  I have to consciously stop my activity when I think I've had enough, and even then sometimes it's too late.

It's hard, I'm been down for so long, that when I get a little energy, I want to do everything!  But, I'll learn the signals.  My MS doc said that Provigil was his patient's favorite.

I've talked to other people who do very well on amantidine.  Funny thing.  Amantidine was developed as an antiviral med and in the '80's we used it to treat influenza.  Then somehow they discovered that it was useful in treating Parkinson's Disease.  I'm not sure when they discovered that it was useful for the fatigue in MS.  Sorry, probably more than you wanted to know.  There is a support group for people who talk too much:

It's called ON-AND-ON-ANON...  Quix

DITTO!! Some do respond to Amantadine, but from my experience with both, Provigil is by far the best!

Amantadine did zero for me, you may as well drink Starbucks all day!!!  The best one is Provigil - now that does work.
