Look I am not a DR. or in the health care field...I am NO expert; other than I have had this happened to me at least 10 times in the past 5 years. First time it scared the living daylights out of me, as they did not go back to nrmal for about 5 minutes which seems like forever! I as a sufferer have had time to think this through now when it happens, and I would suggest you (or somebody close to you) document the results as it happens.
First go to a mirror, ( carry a little one) and check your eyes. Make sure you look or have someone else look into your eyes quickly while this is happening. See first to see if both pupils are the same size. If they are not; get to the nearest Emergency Room as fast as possible without getting into an accident.
If they are both the same, check your Blood Pressure. (Stay Calm)
I have been told I was more than likely having little TA's or passing something through the nerves in your eyes.
Check to see; if you close one eye and see if that makes a difference?
It help me knowing what to look for the next time it happens.
I still don't know what the heck causes these things, but I am also a victim of an aerotic anyeurism at 41, and also had failed aortic valve that required emergency valve replacement. I am now on two blood pressure meds for the last 9 years. I question if this wasn't the body giving me a sign.
This just happened to me again yesterday...I told my primary care he knew nothing about the subject. He also told me it could be something passing through the nerve endings. I was very aggravated just before it happened yesterday.
See a neuro-ophthalmologist.
