I had a hemi toe implant put in both of my lg. toes last year. I have been in such pain that I'm now seeing another surgeon in hopes of doing something to reduce the pain and get some motion back. On a scale of 0-10 (10being worse) he said that I am at a 15! I have no choice, but to go back in for more surgeries. I have a handicap placard because I can't walk very far~I am only 58 years old and I feel like I'm in my 90's! I did see a physical therapist after surgery for both toes and he couldn't even get much motion once the duration of the therapy was over with. I'm not sure if the doctor, Dr. Julia Kahan did something wrong, but I will soon find out!
Hello!
It is possible due to inflammation after healing due to the physiotherapy.
You have muscle stiffness due to immobility due to injury and rest.
The nerve involvement is always another possibility. If the surgery is perfectly done the road to recovery is fighting the pain and continuing physiotherapy.
Avoid infections and follow all the instructions from the orthopedician.
Take care!
I am working working working to get this big toe bending after the hemi implant. When I bend it forward, I feel the stretch and what I would call "normal pain". When I bend it upward, there is INTENSE , sharp constant pain. It feels like something is being pinched. When I release the toe, there is an intense radiating pain for a few seconds. At rest, I am pain free.
It it at all possible that a nerve is being pinched when I bend it upward? It is very difficult to inflict excrutiating pain upon oneself!
Thank you for your response. I will do as you suggested when I see the doctor again next week. He is suppose to take out the stitches at that time.
Hello!
Sometimes the post operative pain stays for 4 weeks and in some individuals the levels of pain are more.
Ask your surgeon if the healing is taking place properly and if everything is perfect and you do not have any infections you can take some pain killers and start doing physical therapy.
This is very important for healing.
Take care!
