Incontenence

I have had Incontinence for several years.  It started out very light, but in the last couple of years it is so bad that I fill pads very often.  For about a year, there is a very strong odor, which is very embarrassing.  I have a Perneal Cleanser that I use everytime I urinate or change my pads, but it is still there.  I went to a Urologist, but he didn't give me any explanations, and I felt the way he handled my situation was uncalled for.  He examined me with out a pad on the examining table, under me, and made me urinate.  I didn't go back to him.

This discussion is related to Incontinence/strong odor in elderly woman.

Hello,
What you seem to be having is urinary incontinence. Urge incontinence is involuntary loss of urine occurring for no apparent reason while suddenly feeling the need or urge to urinate. The most common cause of urge incontinence is involuntary and inappropriate detrusor muscle contractions.Involuntary actions of bladder muscles can occur because of damage to the nerves of the bladder, to the nervous system (spinal cord and brain), or to the muscles themselves.

You can do kegel and pelvic floor exercises. Also medications like estrogens and vaginal pessaries can be tried. Severe cases may require surgery.
I suggest you to consult a urologist and discuss these options with him/her.
I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted. Warm regards.

My elderly Mother-In-Law must be incontintent because she sneaks out to buy pads.  I am down the hall from her room and can smell urine at my office desk.  It is embarassing when I have someone in my office.  She will not speak to a doctor about this I know because my husband or myself go with her.  What can we do about this and keep her pride intact?  She is very old fashioned.  She suffers from RA very badly as well.
