migraines and headaches as a result of concussion

I'm in highschool and during soccer i got a concussion, the doctors said my brain was fine in a cat scan but ever since I have had chronic migraines and headaches for a year now. I saw a neurologist and am on amitriptyline and zolmitriptan. It has reduced my headaches from everyday to four times a week and my migraines from twice a week to once a month. i found that also pushing myself through physical exercise helps too. I still cannot attend school though and am homeschooled as a result. My condition limits my ability to perform in sports and my day to day life. Before I saw a chiropracter who said that the bone in the back of my head, the altlas, was six degrees off after taking x-rays. He adjusted it and instantly my headaches would go away but then I'd wake up in the middle of the night instantly thrown into a migraine. After a month and a half of these adjustments 3 times a week, we gave up on it and I stuck to medication and physical therapy. I would like to be able to return to school soon being that this time in my life is critical to my future and I'm wondering if my condition is reversable. If the atlas is what was knocked out of place during my concussion, is there a way to make it permanently stay in place? My meds cause me to be tired and distant from freinds and wondering if I'm going to be stuck with this the rest of my life is really starting to wear on me. If the atlas is not the soloution is there any way to reverse a concussion at all?

Thank you,
I am currently switching neurologists and hope that will make an improvement.  Thanks for the suggestion for the MRI, the doctors have been back and forth on wether I should get one, but I'll make sure this time it's done.

Thank you for your question. Although without being able to examine you I can not offer you the specific advice on diagnosis and treatment that you need, but I would try to provide you some relevant information about your health concern.

Usually, such headaches and dizziness may result due to post-concussion syndrome and may last for weeks or months after the injury that caused from the injury of a fall, vehicle accident, or sports injury. In addition, patient may experience either migraine type or tension type headache. For treatment approach, first it is essential to get (MRI) done to detect the brain abnormalities after that injury. Treatment commonly may be suggested for headaches such as pain killers, some antidepressants, physical therapy and regular exercises. If you suffer continuous headache, please arrange an appointment with a neurologist right away who will evaluate the possibilities here and can provide you an appropriate treatment. Further referral to a psychologist may be also helpful in order to treat usual anxiety or depression after such injuries (sometimes one may have) that may be one of the aggravating factors for persistent headache.Hope this information proves helpful to you.

Take Care & Regards!!!
