How does an ovarian dermoid affect hormones?

Hi, my name is Teresa and I'm 27 years old. I have always known there is something wrong, and for years I could physically 'feel' my tumor. Sometimes it hurts, sends shooting pain, and other times it's just there. Its something I'm always aware of, and can physically feel its presence inside me even when it isn't tender. I go on wednesday the 16th of December for an ultrasound and possibly a transvaginal (where they go in with the camera) so I don't know exactly how big it is but I can feel it and am guessing it's the size of my fist, making it huge for my body structure of 104 pounds. I read somewhere that the doctor needs to be specially trained for the removal of this, not just and OB GYN can remove it, is this true? Also MICKEY VICKEY mentioned in a post that your optimum hormone production is turned OFF while you have these cysts. Could this be the reason for why I've neer concieved? Someone else posted that once their cysts were removed at age 29, they concieved within a year. My husband and I desperately want to have a baby. Could this be the light at the end of the tunnel? Another girl mentioned that she had to endure through the cysts while trying to concienve because her soc said they'd have to remove her ovary. Overall, I'm scared as hell, depressed and confused, but remain optimistic that this could possibly be the reason that I've never been able to concieve. Is there any truth to the comment about hormone production being turned off while you have these? Wouldn't that affect fertility? I',m just in the dark, can anybody shed some light on the subject, or give me any pointers on what to ask my doctor or how to know if he's even qualified? My main concern is concieving a baby, I'd hate for him to botch this and ruin my chances for good.HELP?

i have a dermoid cyst. it was found 3 weeks ago after a visit to a ob/gyn specialist to figure out why after a year of trying to conceive, i havent. i am really hoping this cyst is why i have not been able to get pregnant. i am having a laparoscopy on friday to have it removed. then once i get the go ahead from my doc, we will begin "trying" again. hopefully having the cyst removed will have done the trick.

i know how you feel though. i knew something was wrong for a while, but never imagined this. it was just a "feeling" i had. now i feel like a whole year has gone by, wasted.

hopefully everything will work out for the best. good luck to you.

let us know what you find out...just know they cant tell anything just by touching it. you have to have a transvaginal ultrasound for them to just get an idea of whats up..even then they may not know for sure ..if it is a dermoid it has a certain look to it on ultrasound ..i do know cysts can prevent ovulation..and all kinds of nasty things...make sure you find out how big it is and if its only fluid filled..(it most likely insnt due to it being there for soo long) find out if its solid or mixed..it may be a tumor..which most are also benign. looking forward to hearing back from you!  Take Care
