cancer survivor - germ cell tumor

my husband was diagnosed with cancer - germ cell, form of testicular cancer, but did not affect his testicles. Treatment started asap, no time for freezing of sperm, but he was young 23, and chances were reported to be high 85% that everything would be fine. after one cycle we tried to freeze sperm, but they found none, which they seemed a bit shocked by. he was on cisplatin which was the concern. now, many years later (7), he had a semen analysis done, and no sperm was found. I've been on a lot of forums - but no one talks about cancer and the affects of the medications experienced. we're on a wait list for a fertility clinic, but i'm wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this? - and if so, did the sperm return, or were they able to find any sperm in the testes???
thanks:)
