Cavernous Malformation? Options

by KimS1900, Oct 20, 2006 12:00AM
Hello

I am looking for other individuals dealing with similar situations to mine. I am a 29 year old female. I passed out at my house alone while on the phone- since I was on the phone when I passed out I was able to tell I had been out for about 45 minutes.  I dont remember anything of the time I was out.

I went to the ER and after a 5 day hospital stay they determined that I most likely had a seizure and found a Cavernoma the size of a blueberry on my right temporal lobe.

I left the hospital taking Dilantin until a got a red rash all over my body - was then switched to Keppra to prevent any additional seizures I might have.  I am having some side effects but nothing major.  I have an appointment on Monday with a Neurologist - but am wondering if anyone else could share their story with me if they ahd something similar?  Do you generally stay on anti-seizure meds forever - or is there something that takes care of this problem?

Thanks!

Hi KIMS1900,
I realize your post was quite awhile ago at this point, but I am curious as to your recovery from this event.
I am a 26 year old female, recently underwent a craniotomy for a cavernoma in my right temporal lobe, and am wondering what I can expect for long term recovery.
I appreciate any advice you have and hope your recovery was successful.
Thanks!

Hi Fred12, would love to know if you heard back from KIMS1900 regarding her cavernoma and her recovery.

I was diagnosed in June 07 with a cavernoma to the paratial lobe have had three bleeds but not receiving any medication or advice or assistance from my consultant.  Feel pretty alone on this one can you offer any suggestions where I can find out more about my condition.

Many thanks
