2nd Child Infertility

Hi,

About 6 years ago we were able to conceive our child with within 6 months. We have been trying last couple of years with no success. We finally decided to do some infertility test. We have done two rounds of the HSG with no success as my cervix would not allow the dye into my uterus and into my fallopian tubes. My doctor wants to do a laprosphy and with HSG with me under. I don't understand why my cervix would be sealed shut now but we did not seem to have this issue with our first child.

Thanks,

This discussion is related to difference between laparoscopy and HSG.

Hi,

The first tube was a tube was very limp, and the radiologist had a hard time getting the tube into the cervix, it kept popping out. She was able to get a dr from the practice who also tried with no luck. I was able to speak with my dr who provided me a prescription for a drug to dilute the cervix and had me come in the next day to further open the cervix which was very very painful, but the radiologist thinks there was too much trauma from three attempts of the HSG, b/c the dye was escaping to my veins which brought me to tears about all that effort to have that results. My dr does not want to have me go through that again which is one of the reasons he wants to do the laproscopy and HSG to determine if my tubes are tied. At this point he doubts that I will ever convince naturally.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, I too am experiencing secondary infertility. We have been trying for 19 mos. I have a 2 1/2 yr old son and got pregnant pretty easily with him - within 3 mos. i had 2 hsg's done. With the 2nd one, the dr had a little trouble getting into my cervix in a way that would let the dye spill through. Did the dr say your cervix was absolutely shut? my dr used a different type of tube to get in because she said the one they typically use is like working with a limp piece of spaghetti and it's hard to manuever. maybe you have the same issue? i also had laproscopy done. It's a minimally invasive surgery and it's not that bad, it's just the recovery  that is hard. you need to give yourself at least a week to recover. I did not realize this and so having to deal with a toddler while being laid up with no help was NOT fun. good luck to you.
