failed vestibular-occular reflex compensation

by Jolier, Feb 13, 2007 12:00AM
Has anyone any experience with balance dysfunction related to failure of the vestibular occular reflex to compensate following labyrinth surgery? I have undergone intensive specific vestibular exercises but compensation is incomplete. Can the balance get any better? MRI OK. Neurologist says compensation could take up to 24 months to occur. Has anyone any suggestions that might improve these odds. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

yes, but not as a result of surgery. Mine is as a result of a C5 (cervical disc) which has suffered a 50% degeneration. It started three years ago and put me in hospital for 8 days, unable to see straight or walk. It has settled down but I have never been right since. My eyes and spacial awareness, and concentration have been severely affected.
