Weird headache in the back of head after running around.

by nate89, Mar 01, 2007 12:00AM
I have had several posts on this website lately and now i have a new problem. i have been pretty inactive for a couple months not really doing to much. and today i was playing basketball with a friend for about 30mins. and i was running around alot and the back of my head like to the left of my brain stem started to hurt.     it didnt feel like a regular headache its different from a basic headache. now ive had problems with this for a while, even when i was in middle school it seemed to happen every once in a while. does this sound like a brain tumor, bad circulation or what??? any advice would be very appreciated.

You might be interested in reading from this web site about a
condition called Arnold Chiari Malformation. I have no idea what
you have but it might be of interest to you. I have the condition
and had similar headaches prior to surgery that restored CSF flow.

The surgery itself was painful for a few days but the nurses kept me comfortable with pain meds for my stay in the hospital. I had surgery on a Thursday and was
sent home on the following Tuesday evening. They sent me home with pain meds that worked for me. I ended up having a reaction to the meds, stomach didn't like them, and stopped taking them a week and a half after the surgery. I took extra strength Tylenol for a week or so and haven't taken any other meds for pain since. I have occasional tension headaches from my neck still being stiff from the surgery, but those don't last long and are not very painful compared to the ACM headaches.

Most likely, your headache is from dehydration.  Try to make sure you drink enough fluids next time before you exercise, as well as afterwards.  Also, I recommend trying to exercise more often. Running 1 mile a day takes less than 10 minutes, nothing you can't spare for your healths sake.
