Pontine Lesion on MRI

by flashdc, Mar 20, 2007 12:00AM
2 weeks ago I had an MRI to diagnose a possible cause of asymmetric pupils.  I have had this problem for over 10 years, but after recent cosmetic eyelid surgery my doctor decided to be on the safe side.  The next day they called me in for a second MRI with contrast after they noted a small AVM located in the subcutaneous tissues over the right temporal region.  This was an expected finding since I had known about it since I was a child.  They also found a small 0.5 x 0.6 x 0.5 cm enhancing focus in the left postero lateral aspect of the pons.  No edema or mass effect is seen, and the lesion cannot be appreciated on precontrast imaging.  The Radiologist said the features of the lesion are nonspecific, but could possibly be a low grade tumor or demyelinating plaque.  No other abnormal enhancing foci are seen.  I have no symptoms to speak of that would suggest either a brain tumor or possibly MS.  Would a vascular malformation be a possible explanation?  Has anyone else had a similar incidental finding on their MRI?  I don't see a neurologist for a couple of weeks and the waiting is driving me nuts...

Any thoughts?
