Posterior Neck "Bubbling" w/Stomach Activity

by CuriousPt, Apr 15, 2007 12:00AM
Hi, I'm 23, male, and I've been having a curious problem. I am able to "hear" my stomach rumble, or rather there is a bubbling sensation in the back of my neck when (just after) my stomach rumbles (usually I'll notice this in bed at night time). But, this is not the only time I notice it. My left knee pops when I climb stairs (probably unrelated), but it seems to reverberate in the same location in the mid to lower cervical region. And, I got into a creek while it was raining and had a heightened sense of awareness of the rain hitting the water up in my neck. I don't know how many of these are related.

The first time I noticed this phenomenon was nearly a year and a half ago, a couple of months after I hurt my shoulder. I did hit my head fairly hard in the fall, but did not feel like I was put into any extreme degree of motion.

I wouldn't say that the bubbling has become more frequent or more intense, but it has remained about the same since it began, only I'm starting to worry about it more.

I have tried to cause the noise, but other than the aforementioned situations, it doesn't seem to happen. I have had no other symptoms like headaches or paresthesias, but I can't help but wonder if this is some sort of vagus problem. My digestion seems normal, though.

In my head, I've ruled out low grade cervical disc herniation due to my lack of symptoms and the fact that the vagus runs outside of that area, but I can't seem to get a feel for what could cause this. Should I just assume that this is benign  unless I have new symptoms, or have a professional check me out?

Just wondering if you have figured out what this is or if anyone else knows what it is as I am having similar symptoms and my doctor is clueless.

I have had the same thing for quite awhile now, I just did a web search and found this site and lo and behold I'm not alone!  I have lyme (I was diagnosed in 2000), and have had all kinds of joint pain, etc., and I think this may be somehow related to it, but I could be wrong.  It just seems like it coincided with when I was diagnosed.  Also lots of popping and cracking in my neck, as well as shoulders, (all my joints) - and at night when I lay down is when its the most crackly (in my neck) and it "clicks" with my heartbeat.

There is another thread in the forum about a fizzing sound in the neck.
I've had this since I was a child, but did not notice any connection to hunger pangs.
I have Lyme.
