Foot Drop - GBS

by wthankachan, Apr 23, 2007 12:00AM
I suffered from an episode of GBS 10 years ago and I was completely paralysed neck downward. I made a slow recovery and now I am left with residual foot drop. Since I regained most of my motor capabilities, I was not worried too much about the foot drop because it was not a major impediment or handicap. I can run a little, I can play a few games like Table Tennis and Badmiton. I was wondering if I can get this corrected because the foot drop affects my gait and walking posture. I dont have the spring in my walk and anybody watching me walk can immediately make out that my walk is not normal. Sometimes it becomes and embarasement and I am asked question on what affected my leg. How should I go about addressing this issue now

1) should i get an EMG done?
2) Does some kind of nerve/muscle stimulation using a electical pluse help (i used to get this treatment during initial stages of my GBS)
3) Does surgery help?
4) Any kind of excersises that I help

I have very minimum range of movement. I can stand on my toes but I cannot pull my feet towards myself. I cannot move my toes well also.

how should I start? or should i just ignore the issue and be grateful for what ever recovery that I have made?

Thanks
