Is sudden awakening a symptom of shunt malfunctioning?

If it is, I would guess that the shunt malfunction is mild and intermittent.  Typically shunt malfunction presents with more definite signs of increased intracranial pressure like headache, vision changes, personality changes, vomiting or lethargy.

But, if you're concerned, you should definitely give a call to your Dr.
