severe hip and pelvic pain after back fusion

by rodizzle, May 11, 2007 12:00AM
I had a L5 S1 spinal fusion in January. A month or two after I started getting severe pain in my hip and pelvic region. My neurosurgeon ordered xrays and said they looked normal. Meanwhile while I was getting them done I was bawling because laying on the xray table hurt so bad. He referred me to an orthopedic and to the pain clinic to see if it is my SI joint. I went to the pain clinic and they are going to do an injection into the joint to see if that is where the pain is. The doctor just had to drop my leg off of the table to see that I was in extreme pain. So I had another mri ordered for my hip and they put a towel inbetween my feet and taped them together? Any reason why they did this? I layed there for about 20 minutes in excruciating pain and when the process was done i couldn't get up it hurt so bad. Here crying again I finally got up but was unable to put pressure on my right side for a little while. I then limped off. I do not understand what is going on?? I am in the military and I feel these doctors aren't listening to me. I took over a year for them to even order the first mri to tell me I had a herniated disc. Can anyone help me as to what is going on?

I'm sorry to say the doctors you used for surgery may not have been as skilled as they should have....besides the fact it took way too long to get an MRI.  Maybe go to another doctor to possibly undo what they did or fix the problem. You may also want to get a lawyer or talk to an officer that could help you do something about the situation.  I have a herniated disc/pinched nerve.... no fun for me, let alone you being in the military. So sorry. While you are on line...."THANK YOU" for fighting for our freedom.

Firstly, thank you for fighting for our freedom.  I volunteer at a VA hopital here in Wisconsin.  It's the least I can do.  I know you posted over a year ago, but I hope this message finds you healthier than you were then.  I'm very interested in what your diagonsis was.  I just had the same fusion by a great doctor, but am suffering from the same hip pain you explained (to the T).  What happened to you?  Did they find out what your pain was from?  Were they able to correct it?  I have never had hip pain like this and it's not sciatitica.  Please feel free to email me at ***@****.
Thank you!
-Mike
