cataplexy associated w/narcolepsy essentially eliminated with drugs for depression

by aardvark51, Jun 13, 2007 12:00AM
I am 56 and have been diagnosed with narcolepsy since my early 20's.(Duke University) Delayed onset of cataplexy- narcolepsy started in earnest at puberty, but cataplexy began around 22 yrs. I am very concerned for bobbiebonitababushka who wrote in 2/17/2006 about cataplexy and was at loss about what to do. My own cataplexy very much like she describes.By accident I discovered that as soon as I was on Prozac, the cataplexy ceased. I understand now that it also works with other antidepressants, but I am not sure about which class they are. I can only speak for the SSRI's. Coincidentally, I also stopped having the hypnagogic hallucinations whcih were so severe as to necessitate calling the police to come get the intruder in my home that wasn't there. (CRINGE) Of course I don't know/can't prove if there is a connection, but I was sure glad to have them go. I hope you would have the writer's real email since there is no string for me to contact her myself. I pray this potentially does the young woman some good, if you can find her. Since those days long ago, I now read more people can be rescued from a problem that has the potential of jailing you at home. I hope she gets this. Thank you for listening/reading.
