Unexplained night seizures

by jancierani, Jun 13, 2007 12:00AM
My husband is 48 years old. He has had 3 seizures this year- all at night, about half an hour after going to bed. Seizures last about 20 minutes- after which he sort of comes out of it  We have done an MRI and two EEG tests - one when awake and one when he was asleep. All the tests showed nothing significant - one EEG showed a marginal slowness on the right. He has suffered form NPC and received radiotherapy about 5 years ago. We also did a PET scan after the seizures and he is free from cancer. So, We still don't understand why he is having the seizures. He is on Epilim 100 mg daily.

My husband is 38 and also has these sames night seizures. 3 years now. Total of 19. They keep increasing. 5 EEGs, 2 Cat Scans, 1 MRI and numerous EKG,s. I have noticed symptoms of "icy feet" or Redness in the face before the seizure which means poor circulatory system at night expecially. We have been to heart specialists and a neurologist. She refuses anymore testing. He is to be fitted for a c-pap tonight. We have been to 3 natural paths and have found that it could be linked to the penial gland in the center of the brain. This controls circulation as you sleep. We test his sugars before bed, give him oxygen before bed and he is on a no sugar diet. A doctor is wanting him on Keppra but my husband  is unsure of this. However, no matter what we do the seizures are increasing. He is on herbs as of now and has done colon cleanses and liver detoxes. We are looking everywhere for answers. These natural paths have been over 25-35 years in buisness each. I know the sleepless nights as a wife and I feel for you. It is very traumatic. We have to sometimes give him mouth to mouth and put more oxygen on him. Someday I may loose him and keep trying for answers.

Hello.

Has a sleep deprived EEG been done. In any case, the slowness on the right dose suggest some dysfunction.

Can you recall if the seizures start in any particular areas and spread to the whole body ? I am hinting towards a partial seizure.

Would you like to describe his seizure ?

Regards

update on my husbands siezures. Back from night studay. Found out he has a form of sleep apnea. I realized from talking to the technician that the c-pap has water in it to take air in from your room and put moist air in the patient to breathe in. This made me check back on my records of his seizures and saw that most of them are in the months of running the furnace. We don't run a humidifier upstairs and so it is extra dry there. So I have since purchased one to try to help. We are hoping that the pap and the humidifier correct his problem. If not he will probably have to go on the medication. We are still trying herbs meanwhile to help the penial gland.
