low wbc count

Is it standard procedure to order a bone marrow biopsy when wbc counts are 2.9 & 2.8? Calcium, albumin & protein were a bit high.
Thanks,Karen

thanks for your comment. Yes, I went to a hematologist/oncologist. Had biopsy yesterday. I was sedated, so it wasn't too bad. I am sore today however. Results will take about 10 days.
Biopsy it seems is the best indicator how your body is doing since that is where the cells are produced.

IF you have had a repeat blood work and it still shows irregular blood counts I think bone marrow biopsy would be a next step to figure out why. Did your doctor refer you to a hematologist?  Before the bone marrow biopsy I'd ask why they want to do it, and what it is likely to show so you don't get freaked out.  Bring someone with you to the appointment!  And just a little FYI bone marrow biopsies hurt, but they are over within a few minutes and the pain doesn't last once they are done.

It is if your physician is suspecting lymphoma or leukemia.
