Vomiting with a Tracheostomy Tube

by jennmike, Apr 18, 2007 12:00AM
My father (61) has oral cancer.  The cancer is in his tongue and vooice box.  They will treat him with radiation and chemo.  He recently had a trachoestomy tube inserted in case he begins to have trouble breathing as a result from radiation theropy (swelling).  He will begin chemotheropy next week.  If the chemo makes him sick to his stomach and he vomits, does this cause a concern since the tube is in.  Is it possible for him to choke, etc?  Since he currently can breath normally, can they cap off the trach tube?  We have noticed that when he eats some of the food does leak out of the trach tube - i.e. ice cream.  He found that if he holds the tube, it helps.  So I wondered if it is possible to cap it off until he really needed it.  Thank you for your advice.

www.nsc24.com is the sight to go to for product to build the immune system since your father will have to go through chemo, also look up bioactive nutrients (on the net), get the phone# and talk to a representative and tell them everything, and i have faith that they can help some but all that they can't do i've already prayed to the Father for your father....God be with you in Jesus name
