Constant sever dry cough whenever I laugh hard

by healthysam, Jun 08, 2007 12:00AM
It has been a couple of weeks that I cough so terrible when I laugh. I can't even laugh normal as I used to. Very severe constant cough kills me. I do not have any symptoms for flu or cold or fever or even mucus. Everything looks normal but the moment I laugh hard, I cough so dry and bad that is burns my chest and I feel very uncomfortable for a while even after it stops.
I just requested my regular lipid profile test but this time I asked my doctor to request TB test with that too. Should I request x-ray? Some advice on what tests to ask for would be helpful.
Thank you!

Laryngeal irritations and/or mild asthma are the first things that come to mind.
I would  try drinking lots of water, sucking on some hard candy or using cough drops for a week to see if things calm down. If not, I would ask for pulmonary function tests.

Though the chances are slimer, a very mild case of pertussis (whooping cough) could cause coughing fits from laughing. I had pertussis 2 years ago, and laughing was almost impossible. However, I had a severe case and my coughing was unrelenting and violent enough to fracture my ribs in 7 different locations.

TB disease seems very unlikely unless you have at least one of the other symptoms like, night sweats, fevers, feel fatigued and/or cough alot with blood stained sputum.

Best of fortune,
Celeste
