one lesion, all the symptoms

My sister has been having problems for a full year...  she's had an itch she can't get at in one place only.  burning on the legs...she calls it wobbly eyeballs, fatigue, very very bad neck pain where she can hardly move it and electricity going through her head and arms when she bends her head.

I have MS and these are very similar symptoms to my own, however they only found one lesion on the brain and she is going to have an MRI of the neck this week.

So with all these symptoms and that lesion, why wouldn't they dx MS?

One MRI visible lesion.  Postmortem histopathology studies of the brain have shown many more lesions that never showed on MRI in MS patients.

Well yesterday I went to my ms doc.  He told me that you can get a dx with one lesion with the physical symptoms are there but not always in one place.  Her face burns, but so does her legs.  Her toes curl up when she walks, and so on... same symptoms, but each relapse occurs in a different place.  So sad.  i don't take medication anyway so I suppose she wouldn't.  In that case, I guess it really doesn't make a difference if she gets a dx.  Thank you all for responding.

Alot of doctors are afraid to dx MS without the proof needed to meet the McDonald criteria. It can take a while for lesions to show up and some lesions are not detected with an MRI. There are alot of MS mimics out there that need to be ruled out before they can dx MS.

You have MS and that raises her chance for getting MS as well. My sister has MS and it took my doctor 2 years to tell me I have MS but still won't start me on the meds until there is more proof. I know what your sister is going through and wish her the best of luck with getting a diagnosis.

Has she had a second or third opinion? Sometimes that is what it takes to get to the bottom of what is going on.

Take Care,
Paula

I have a lot of clinical symptoms and 2 active lesions in the frontal lobe. I was told the lesions are not classic for MS. I am still waiting for an LP and an EMG. So I guess having a lesion does not mean MS. There are other things that can cause lesions I have been told. Of course if you have a lot of clinical symptoms and lesions, that seems to be a different story. I hope she gets answers soon.
