HSV1 Positive

I recently got tested for HSV1 and HSV2 because of a new relationship. We got to talking about that his mother is HSV1 positive and until now, after a few relationships, he stays HSV1 negative and he would like to stay that way.

My problem is, I have HSV1 positive and I also researched a bit about what's realistic. It appears to me that it's closely to be impossible if the mother is HSV1 positive and the baby would stay negative with HSV1 even if there is no outbreak.

My main concern is, I would love to have children and how will this affect my child bearing? I read from a few medical journals that it is actually dangerous if I am infected with HSV1 during pregnancy.

Third, Is this man asking for the impossible?

http://www.ashastd.org/herpes/herpes_learn_oralherpes.cfm  has terrific info on oral herpes for more reading. indeed it is more likely any children you have will not contract hsv1 orally from you as they are growing up if you follow the common sense precautions listed on the website :)

Wow I read this and feel bad for you.  The guy is so concerned with HSV-1.

HSV-1 positive mother and HSV-1 negative child isn't impossible.  Proper precautions taken and you can avoid transmission of your HSV-1.  But none the less nothing is perfect.  HSV-1 really and truly is merely a skin condition.  Even if you don't have an outbreak about 18% of days a year you are shedding the virus from the oral location.

The risk to the baby from a delievering a baby is genital herpes.  Yes if you get the HSV virus during pregnancy it can be harmful.  Those that have an established infection are not as risky to the baby as you might think.  In your case you have HSV-1 orally.  The risk to your baby when you have one is kissing during a coldsore.  Avoid kissing until the skin is fully healed and avoid kissing around like the eyes.
