Stroke

by Radak, Jan 03, 2006 12:00AM
My Mother had a stroke in January 2005.

She has many troubles, but my question is on one:

She has difficulty in her body temperature and can be inappropriately hot or cold to the surroundings.

She loves to sleep on a heated mattress pad (like an electric blanket, but under), but I have discovered her sweaty.

I have asked her physician and he said that as long as it doesn't burn her skin, it will do no harm and may be beneficial.

I question that.

If her body temperature shoots up while she is on a warm surface, I submit that this can't be a good thing. And it doesn't have anything to do with whether she feels she is cold or hot.

Twice she has had bloody vomiting and bloody diarrhea after sleeping a couple hours on this pad. (Of course, she has also had many nights on this pad and did not have any known problems)

Should she be sleeping on a heated pad such as this?

Thank you!
