TIA after stroke

by shnnlrd, Mar 06, 2006 12:00AM
Mom, age 55, had a stroke 2 weeks ago affecting her right MCA territory.  She has a 100% occluded right carotid artery.  Luckily, she only has left leg paralysis, but this morning she had left facial numbness and we went back to the hospital.  They are saying it was a TIA.

My question is, does this mean she will have another stroke, or is it just an after effect from the first one?  And, does this mean her risks for suffering another stroke will be greater?

Thanks,

Shannon

From what I'm reading, the TIAs are preludes to a larger stroke. I'm seeing several doctors after having 8 TIAs and they still don't know what is causing them. Best of luck with your mom but keep a close eye on her. God Bless!

I was wondering if I have had a TIA, I have seen a doctor and he tells me it could be my neck, I dont believe so I have had no neck problems.

About 5 years ago I was driving home and I got weakness on my left side and had a hard time speaking since then I have had these same symptoms off and on. Some say its anxiety some say its headaches and the last person I saw say its my neck, I dont know what to do and I am scared that it could be TIA's and be mis diagnosed because of my age (27) Please help if you can.

I am also 27 and have had 2 TIA's exactly 2 weeks apart during this past month.  It began with vision problems. About 10 minutes later my left hand and arm went numb.  The numbness then travelled to my face and mouth, all on the left side.  About 30 minutes later I had the most severe headache on the top, right side of my head above my eye.  The numbness had stopped but the headache lasted the rest of the day, no matter how many aleve I took.  I went to the doctor and was taken off of birth control pills and perscribed an aspirin a day pending MRI results.  The nurse called and said the MRI looked good.  I don't know what that means exactly but I have my follow up appointment on 6-15 so hopefully I will know more then.
