Watershed stroke recovery

by MichaelLori, Mar 16, 2006 12:00AM
My Mother-in-law, Cora, has apparently had a watershed stroke.  This was 3 weeks ago.  She has had small improvements each day, with today being the most talkative yet.  We were told tonight that tomorrow she will receive a tracheotomy, because she cannot swallow.  She is going to go to another hospital on next Tuesday for therapy and rehabilitation.  Will she possibly be able to get the trach. removed in the future?  Do the therapists teach her how to swallow with the trach. in place?  We are in Oklahoma, and she is in Indiana, so this is very difficult for us.  My husband was able to go to Indiana for a week when it first happened, but had to come home to work.  I really appreciate any help that you can give, as it seems that we can hardly get any answers.  Do you know if it is possible to get any Dr's reports emailed to a family member so that someone in the medical field that is a friend could help us to understand?

Thank you very much, and God bless you.

Sincerely,

Lori Colbart
