Previous stroke victim has severe right side pain

by Junebugz2, Feb 04, 2007 12:00AM
My dad had a massive stroke in April 2006.  He suffered from right side paralysis & loss of speech.  It will be a year in April since this has occurred.
He still does not speak as often or as well as he did before the stroke, however, he is having constant ride side pain, pointing from his chest area, his arm & down his leg.  He is also complaining of abdomen pain.  This morning he has told my mother if anything happens to him, to not call anyone.
Any advice that you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time.....

I hope it is alright for me to reply here.  My mother in-law had a heart attack and stroke in July 06.  Because she was alone for possibily 24 hours or more after the stroke and the severity of it she has never gain back any speech or use of right arm and leg.  She is unable to communicate with us to let us now what hurts.

A few months after the stroke she developed severe pain on one side of her body.  It was heart wrenching to see her cry in pain.  No pain killers were touching her pain.

I had read about something call central post stroke pain (CSP) and thought that she had it.  It took a couple of doctors before we got one to agree.  Anyway,  they are using a combination of anti-seizure medication and anti-depressants for the CSP with major success.  They have actually been able to back off on some of the pain meds.

Hope you find answers.  Is your dad at home?  My mother in-law is so disabled that see is now in a nursing home.

God Bless
