Mom just had a stroke

by LoveMom, Jun 12, 2007 12:00AM
Mom had a stroke on Friday in the brain controlling motor skills on the left side of the body.  Her legs are fine and strong.  Her left arm is fine controlling movement and bending.  She cannot, however, move her left fingers or grab things with her left hand.  She also has some facial droop on the left side of her face (eye and mouth)

She is moving today from the hospital to a rehabilitation facility today.

Can you tell me what we can expect regarding the improvement of her motor skills in her left hand and the droop in her face?

Thank you so much.

From a very concerned son who:

The greatest amount of a stroke patient improvements usually occurs in the first 90 days. Improvements continue beyond that but at a slower pace. Sounds like she's recovering well however, all strokes are different. It's going to take time. I've been told that an injury to the brain can take 20 times longer to heal as compared to the rest of the body. Hang in there. It might be a long ride.
