I have a friend that went for her 12 week app. last week and didn't hear the heartbeat. They did an u/s and the baby was moving around and the heart was beating strong. I hope this helps. I know the wondering is hard. I would be a wreck too. Good Luck to you! Shannon

They should definitely be able to hear the heartbeat on a doppler at 10 wks.  If they don't, they need to do an u/s immediately to know for sure what's going on.  Best wishes.

That's not always true.  When I was pregnant with my daughter, we were not able to hear the heartbeat at 10 weeks with the doppler.  My OB told me to come back in 2 weeks and we would probably hear it then.  He was correct.  Many factors can contribute to not hearing the heartbeat at 10 weeks, such as position of baby, tipped uterus, or maternal fat.

I agree, you cannot always hear it at 10 weeks via doppler. Don't freak out yet. if they don't see it on u/s, that would signify a problem.

In addition to the factors listed in the previous post, user error and equipment are 2 very large factors as well : )

Try to relax, easier said than done I know.

I am now 13 wks and at 10 wks went in for my monthly checkup and she couldn't hear it with the doppler, they immediately did an ultrasound and there he was, snug as a bug in a rug.If you are making yourself sick call them on monday and tell them you can't wait could they please do an ultrasound that day? wouldn't hurt.

Good Luck!!

I was never able  to hear the heart beat from my babies until at least 12 weeks. My perinatologist said he won't even try until 12 weeks because it is too stressful on the mom if it can't be heard. So why put us through that?

So don't fret , things are likely fine.

Hello,
Just had my first prenatal today, i am 9 weeks and 6 days preggo with my second child. I did hear the baby's heart beat however my doctor said that they usually can not hear it until at least 12 weeks. She said it is probably because i am very thin.
So don't worry, it is perfectly normal.
