butrans from norco

I was on 10 325 norco 4 times daily and doc put me on Butrans 10.  The first five days I felt horrible.  Was this withdrawal?  I was told I would not have withdrawal symptoms.  The doc said to use Tramadol for break-through pain.  I also take Celexa.  I know Tramadol has big contraindications with both drugs. If I take any it's one 50 mg once or twice a day.  When I do I feel really bad, like dizzy, light breathing, just not me at all. I've seen on the boards that people take Norco for break-through pain.  Will that work?  It doesn't seem to present as many complications as Tramadol.  What do you all think?

This discussion is related to Oycodone to Butrans.

I don't have personal experience with it. It's addicting,I know that. Maybe you could call the pharmacy and ask more about it.

Does it help your pain though?  That's why you have it...but if you don't like how it feels you need to tell him and get something different. Or a dose change.

Thanks all of you for your responses.  My doc wanted me to use Tramadol but that makes me feel REALLY bad if I take one for breakthrough pain, and I only take one 50 mg at a time.  Today I had a horrendous headache so I took a Norco and it helped my headache. That was after ice, rest, two aspirin.  I have an appt with doc on Wednesday.  I did talk to the nurse today and I didn't really get any answer but talk to the doc when you see him.   So, Vicki, Butrans, will there be withdrawal when I go off it?  I don't like how it makes me feel. But I don't really want to go back to 40 mg Norco daily either.  I have chronic neck pain, have had rhizotomies and ESIs as well.  Does anybody know first-hand about Butrans and what was your experience with it?  Did it help, did you feel ok while you were on it?  Thanks to all

Trisha:  Once BuTrans therapy is begun, it takes several days for the drug to build up a blood level to be effective. This is only in the beginning and could explain the symptoms you were having.

Are you having breakthrough pain? Please ask the doctor what you can take beside the Tramadol.

Is there any way you could speak with another doctor in the meantime?  I would never want to tell anyone to stop their meds, but this needs to be drawn to a docs attention so you can get some help!

Good luck...and keep us posted on how you're doing, ok?  : )

Thanks, to all of you.  I agree about Tramadol and I agree about talking to the doc.  I just don't get to see him until 9/11.  Thanks again

You need to tell your doctor about the effects the drugs are causing.

I would not take tramadol under any circumstance, especially in combination with butrans or celexa.  If your doctor told you to do that then I think it's best to get another opinion.  Those drugs don't need to be mixed!
