Planning to get pregnet within 1 year, how do I get in best physical state?

by mystic74, Jan 21, 2005 12:00AM
I plan to get pregnant within 1 year and wanted to know what I need to do to get in the best physical state. My sister just had a baby and she had a difficult pregnancy. I know all pregnancies are different. My sister is a lot heathier than I am. I suffer from Asthma, and other odd ailments, such as IBS, carpal tunnel, lethargy. I was told that the female body usually heals itself during pregnancy, should there be any problems. I know I have to exercise and eat right, but life doesn't always permit that. As far as exercise, I don't, but would like to pick up a simple everyday routine. As far as eating right, I do, with the exception of a few pizza nights. I eat well overall. I probably need supplements, but don't want to over do it with them (I'd rather get the nutrients naturally thru food). So, my question is, what do I need to do to prepare my body for a pregnancy? And during pregnancy? Thank you.

Hello! I think the best thing to do would be start taking a prenatal vitamin, exercise, and maintain a normal healthy weight. Also it's not too early to buy some books about pregnancy. It helps to read up ahead of time about what kinds of things you can do/can't do and can eat/can't eat while pregnant. Also there are books out there specifically for before you conceive.

I also have IBS, and it seems better with this pregnancy. Possibly because I've been eating better. Your carpal tunnel will probably get worse, do you wear a wrist brace? I developed carpal tunnel this pregnancy, I find wearing a brace at night helps. I think you should make a preconception appt with your doctor to discuss your asthma and help to answer some of your pregnancy related questions.

Best wishes to you! Keep us posted on how things go!

The easiest exersizes to do to prepare yourself are sit-ups and kegels.Sit-ups to help strengthen your tummy muscles so they don't seperate when your pregnant, and kegels to help with the pushing in labor. There both really easy to do everyday, and they help you bounce back quickly after delivery.hope this helps~

I agree with the others to just exercise nothing drastic...just a little each day will do wonders for how you feel.

I also have IBS and it did get better when I was pregnant. At least that is something you can look forward too......

My little one is almost 8 months old and I'm still feeling pretty good.

I also agree that you should start taking prenatal vits NOW.....they say to start them BEFORE you get pregnant, it is better for the baby.

Some people find that their insurance don't cover them as much as they like and if that is the case or if you can't get your doc to write the prescription then you can buy them over the counter......I've been told that they are the same thing.

Best of luck to you.
