by sallie05, Aug 13, 2005 12:00AM
Hi. I am new to this board and have a few questions. My husband and I are TTC. One problem I have noticed is that after we have sex alot of his semen leaks out of me. I try tilting up but alot still seems to come out. Any tips? Also, what are some easy tips fopr knowing when I am most fertile? My cycle is not always regular. Thanks so much!!

just take it easy, and it will eventually happen. i know this is hard to hear, but when people relax that is when they conceive. plus you said that alot of semen leaks out of you, this is not a problem, the semen is just nutrition for the sperm. the sperm are probably in you when the semen is coming back out. i was never one to lay down for along time after the deed. the day i got pg i took a shower about 5 minutes after we finished. good luck

Thanks guys. As far as the ovulation predictor kit, I thought I was supposed to have sex five days prior to ovulation and that if I waited until I actually ovulated that it would be too late. I guess I was wondering if you could really tell when you were fertile using the ov/kit or is it better to check things like your cervix or mucous. Could someone please recommend a good ov.kit. Will it have instructions on how to predict when I am most fertile?

The story is if you want to get pg you should have sex everyday up to and including the day of ovulation.  If you are hoping for sex selection of your baby then you should have sex up to 3 to 2 days b4 ovulation for a girl and within 24 hours of ovulation or on day of ovulation for a boy.  Try putting your legs straight up in the air after sex and stay there for at least 10 minutes or prop your hips with pillow afterwards.  Also, depending on your cycle, you will most likely ovulation somewhere between 10-14th day of your cycle.  Good luck.

They say just to lay there for a while, As for ovulation you can buy kits now a days to chart and see what days are best!!especially if your irregular its harder to tell

If you chart your  temperature -- your suppose to ovulate on the day your temperature rises, your  temperature should fall slightly the day before then rise slightly the next day this is to be your ovulating day...

If your just starting ttc they believe that  after a year of trying without sucess then seek a fertility specialist/or your doctor

I ttc twice and got pg both times. First one unfortunately turned out to be a m/c. Both times I used ovulation predictor tests starting on day 10 and going till day 19. I also would hold my legs up in the air afterwards. Best of luck to you!

I am certainly no expert, I have three boys and just read the book How to Choose the Sex of your baby, by Dr. Shettles and that is what it said.  My dr. said it is one of the best books she has found and she actually lent me her copy. We'll see though, I am sure I am just destined to have boys. Don't get me wrong, I adore the three I have and all I really want is a healthy baby, but I thought why not try, change up the momento in this house a bit.  I have only found out once with my pregnancies what I was having, because all in all I just wanted a healthy baby.  Same this time, but am giving strong consideration to finding out.  I have my first appt. on Tuesday.  Am six weeks today.  I hope for a happy healthy pregnancy - God will give me what he thinks I should have.  Maybe read that book if you want a girl and give it a go, I think it does not hurt.  Anyway, good luck on your next try, but two boys is great, three boys is perfection!!!!

I am TTC too. Here's what I would suggest. Start the ovulation kit the day your bleeding stops, and use the ovulation sticks in the 1st morning urine every day until you get a positive. During the positives try every day, before and after the positive days, try every other day. If you never get a positive stick, try every other day until your next AF. I'm using 1st Response brand. Good luck and loads of baby dust to you (and me lol!).

I definitely had the best luck with following the vaginal mucus/discharge. I know it sounds gross, but it was true for me- times of the month were definitely different. The month I really monitored it, I was sure to have sex at the fertile time when I sure enuf felt the 'egg white' mucus. It was clear and exactly like egg whites. 6 weeks later- + pregnancy test. Although I m/c'd, I will again mark not only the start of my pd.,but more important check the mucus. Hope this helps!

Hi girls. I have one more question. I have had a hard time counting my cylces b/c I always have at least 2-3 days of light spotting before I actually begin having cramps, and have a heavy flow. My doctor said that this was ok, but I am still confused about when to star counting. Do I start the first day I spot or that I actualy have a flow and need a tampon? Thanks again, y'all are great.

Start counting on the first day you see red blood.

sallie dont worry. sperm are VERY GOOD swimmers and your husband has BILLIONS. sperm leakage generally isnt a problem although you may want to avoid being on top since its not a prime position for conception (though it does work!) Understand that the lions share of sperm is in the first squirt which is why the withdrawal method of birth control has produced ALOT of babies!

me and my partner are trying to have a baby but it seems not to be working, am i eating the right foods what could we both be doing wrong, when we do try the sperm seems to leak out and iv even tryed to put a pillow under neath me but it seems not to be working, is this natural. thanks alot

How much sperm comes out doesn't really say if you are going to get pregnant or not.  For me when I got pregnant I had gone straight to the bathroom after and over 90% of it came out and I was very active the whole day and still ended up pregnant.  My boyfriend has super sperm though lol.  I have read that you should ly on your back for 20 minutes with your hips up.  Your body can only hold so much sperm though and quite a bit will still come out.  I also read that you shouldn't do any position that your legs are spred, so try and have him on top or however you can keep your legs more together (sorry if TMI)

I came off the pill 4 months ago and the majority of my cycles have been 35 days.  I still feel like I ovulate around day 14/15.....however I keep reading that if your cycle is longer than 28 days I should be ovulating later than day 14.  Will be TTC in January so I just wanted to see what other people thought so I get my ovulation day right.  Thanks!
