my 4 year old poops his pants and hides it.

hi my son is 4 years old now and about a month ago started pooping his pants at least once a day.there are times where i will smell him and find out that he did it or other times where i dont see him for a while and when i find him hes hiding in a corner.he never tells me he has to go or that he even pooped himself.why does he do this?we never had a problem before.
