Sorry, the last one,

He said he would have definitely sent me for a stress test just to make sure my heart was ok but since I have no medical, my Mother also chimed in since she was there with me stating it would be WAY TOO expensive! Am I putting my life at risk right now? Because if so, I am getting the damn test done! I am NOT messing around with my health anymore.
If I start taking the meds tomorrow for the thyroid, my doctor said it won't start working until three weeks, is that too long? Am I at a HIGH RISK right now that my thyroid is so low? I am SO worried, my little boy needs me and I can't help it but I am in panic mode.

I will also be starting the Diabetes medicines that was prescribed for my PCOS next week and I will also be on Zoloft for my depression and Anxiety. I can't believe I have to go on THREE medicines every day, this is crazy! I never take medicines UNLESS I really need them.
I was also prescribed XANAX but haven't taken it yet, I am a bit afraid to take it, anyone have any experience with it? Honestly though, how safe is it that I will have to take all of these meds every day?
Thanks so much.

I ditto everything everyone has posted.I am bi polar as well as being thycs patient right now.I used to have panic attacks when my bi polar was at its worst. But through med management and therapy and my family,I now like to say bi polar is in remission,
I take a celexa/zyprexa combo for the bi polar and Synthroid/cytomel for my thyroidlessnes.
It does take time for the meds to kick in.So in the mean time come here to post whatever is on your mind. .This is such a upport systme for not only our thyroid stuff but for life in general.I hope this helps.

Please do not feel alone.
Thyroid issues can be very scary.
We all go through rough periods and need to talk with others experiencing similiar health problems.
It is a constant struggle to regulate the thyroid and feel somewhat normal.
Listen to the Doctors and try and stay calm.
Listen to your body as well.
I know that this is very hard.
When you need to talk come to the board and post.
I found reading the archives helped as well.

Things will get better with time.
Take care

It sounds like a lot is going on in your life right now.  Taking 3 medicines a day is not all that uncommon; many of us here on the forums have other medical problem besides the thyroid problem so a lot of us take several medicines a day.  I also come from a family of people who don't take medicine unless necessary but given your symptoms and your high stress it's my opionion that this sounds like a case where the medicine is necessary.  I've been on zoloft for anxiety before (my hyperthyroidism used to cause me to have extremely high stress levels and panic attacks) and because it can actually make panic attacks a little worse until it gets to the right level in your body my doctor gave me xanax as well.  I know a number of people who find that xanax really works well for them (to the point where their house could be burning and they wouldn't be stressed at all).

I would suggest you start on the thyroid medicines as well as the anxiety medicines and see if that helps with some of your chest discomfort & pressure.  I know that when I would have my panic attacks I felt pressure on my throat and I couldn't swallow.  Regarding whether or not to have the stress test it's really up to you & your doctor.  If it were me I would wait as the rest of the cardiac workup was negative but if the symptoms don't get any better in the next month I would revisit the idea of doing the stress test.

The medicine not kicking in for several months has you concerned but I want to reassure you that is normal.  Many of us went undiagnosed for many years without any long term effects so what might be helpful is to focus on the fact that you are now diagnosed and work on taking care of yourself the best that you can; hopefully this will help keep those worries out of your mind.

Please let us know if you have any more questions and concerns.  Like Cheryl said many of us only post at night or every couple of days so you should be seeing more responses this weekend.  Welcome to the forum.

Hi There...

I suffered from panic attacks and anxiety for the past 21 years... I now have them under contro;l, but YES they are so very frightening.. they can make you feel like you are having a heart attack and going to die .... BUT YOU WONT!!! the worst the will do to you is you could faint... and you will come to! face them head on let them know you will not give it control! TRY something similar to what chery says... I place a rubberband on my wrist and continue to snap it until the attack fades.. it deverts the adrealene and stops the fear... ther was many times I had pains in my chest and left arm face goes numb and tingles... I know EXACTLY what you are going through!.... WE ARE ALL HERE FOR YOU =)
oh, yeah! drinking cold water helps.. and I did junping jacks!!! ..lol shhh no ones knows about that! ..lol =)-

I am not an expert by any means w/any of your ?'s but want you to know I read all your posts and WE ARE HERE FOR YOU .. many times people working during the day will post much later at night or during breaks @ work .. I am sure more will respond.

I have and anxiety attacks in the past as you describe .. I have found if I run chilling cold water on both insides of my wrists it helps to divert the adrenelin and thoughts of fear elsewhere .. I tell myself it is ok .. a panic attack and the shortness of breath and all the other symptoms will settle down and they do with the water .. (of course, that is if they are anxiety and not heart related but sounds like that is what the Dr. has diagnosed so maybe give it a try next time if you are sure it is anxiety going on, etc.).

Cheryl - Pap ThyCa .. partial thyroidectomy 1/9/07 .. ThyCa found after surgery upon final biopsy.
