Nervous...D

by tmicpa, Sep 25, 2006 12:00AM
I am 17 weeks preggo and am going for a D&E (dilation & evacuation)due to a chromosomal abnormality and other problems. It's a two day procedure that will take place tomorrow for dilation and Wednesdsay for surgury. Needless to say, I am very nervous. I would like to know anyone's experience with the procedure itself, the aftermath(bleeding/cramping/emotions) and how long to wait to try again.

My story began at 12 weeks with the nuchal translucency screening. My screening came back abnormal with a high measurement of the neck. When the blood test results came back 4 days later, I was given a less than 1 in 5 chance to have chromosomal abnormalities. At 13 weeks, I had a follow up sonogram which identified a cystic hygroma that extended from the neck area down and all around the torso. At 15 weeks, I had another sonogram with amnio. The cystic hygroma got worse and doc's said would eventually take over lungs. Our risk for chromosomal abnormality was increased to 50% due to the cystic hygroma. At 16 weeks, we got the results back from amnio which concluded our baby has a chromosomal abnormality. We were devastated by all of this news. I am only 32 years old and did not think this could ever happen to me. It's been a long 5 weeks of waiting and I am looking forward for all of this to be over so we can move on with our lives.
