Where should the uterus be at 16 weeks?

by twiceadopt, Sep 29, 2006 12:00AM
Hi all - had the 16wk checkup today, doc found heartbeat quickly on the doppler, @ 140. nothing else remarkable bc the appt was so quick, but she did say she felt the uterus right above the pubic bone. is that where it's supposed to be at 16 weeks? Given that my pants are too tight (and i havent gained any weight), i was sort of expecting it to be higher up? thanks in advance-

Sounds normal!

At your next appointment your uterus will probably be right about your belly button.

That sounds about right. Maybe a bit low for some people, but we all expand differently. By 20 weeks, it will be about at your bellybutton, but don't worry if it's a little higher or lower. Just like everything else with pregnancy, ther are broad ranges of normal.

Your pants are too tight because the uterus pushes up whatever else is there as it expands.  It's not the uterus directly that you are buttoning the waistband around (until later).

thanks. hard to believe it'll grow that much in 4 weeks!

Your uterus is at around bellybutton level at 20 weeks.  My Dr. said it's about a finger width below for each week, so about 4 fingers below your belly button, but we are all different.  Mine seems to be right about on target according to that though.  Congrats!

Mine finally poked out about my pubic bone (10.5 weeks), having risen quite a bit from week 9.5 (last exam). The dr. had no trouble finding the h/b in the office and i can feel the uterus's hard bump right there above the bone--it is a strange sensation. Supposed to be like a grapefruit now, with the baby like an apple, I feel like a fruitbasket!!

At my 10 week checkup my uterus was right above my pubic bone.  Heartbeat was also at 140.  I just went to the doc's a few days ago and heartbeat was again 140 and my uterus was about an inch below my belly button, which I thought was high for only 14 weeks.  I am reading pregnancy week by week and it tells you each week where you should be able to feel it.  I guess everyone is just different or maybe I am in for a surprise at my ultrasound.

Hi all,

I just went to get an ultrasound today and was told that my amnion was not yet attached and that I had an anterior placenta. I am 16 weeks and 2 days and I am worried that something is wrong. they told me that they would try to do my amnio next week at 17 weeks. Is this normal?

thanks
